Update: September 17th has come and gone, but we do have a few spots left open for additional late registrations. If you know anyone who wishes to attend, or you yourself would like to join us, we will be accepting additional registrations through Monday, September 21. Certified Welding Inspector Seminar and Exam in Minneapolis, Aug. 30-Sept. 5

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is widely recognized, both nationally and internationally, in the welding industry. Successful companies have come to rely on this AWS certification when ensuring the highest level of quality workmanship.

To qualify for exam registration, a Welding Inspector Exam Application and the required supporting documentation must be submitted and approved. Applications with incomplete or missing information will be considered unqualified unless the missing documentation can be provided within two (2) weeks of being notified (via telephone or email) that their application is incomplete. If the applicant fails to meet the qualification criteria for the exam, the exam fee (or the exam portion of a seminar/exam package fee) will be refunded minus a processing fee.

ANNOUNCEMENT 1

Effective for exams to be taken after November 1, 2008 or later, the Codebook Exams (Part C) for CWI certification and CWI/SCWI endorsements listed below will require the codebook edition(s) noted. If selecting one of these exams for your Part C option, please be sure to bring the edition(s) noted. Older editions will not be useable.

AWS D1.1 Exam: AWS D1.1/D1.1M, Structural Welding Code – Steel, 2006 or 2008 Editions

ANNOUNCEMENT 2

Effective for exams to be taken after November 29, 2008, the NEW Codebook Exams (Part C) for CWI certification and CWI/SCWI endorsements listed below will be offered. If selecting one of these exams for your Part C option or endorsement, please be sure to bring the edition(s) noted. Older editions will not be useable.

AWS D1.2 Exam: AWS D1.2/D1.2M, Structural Welding Code – Aluminum, 2003 or 2008 Edition

ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 & Section IX Combo Exam: ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and Section IX (both 2007 editions with 2008 addenda)

Welding Supervisors can make a valuable contribution to the four most important metrics in welding operations: quality, cost, productivity and safety. Yet, the position of welding supervisor is often an overlooked resource.

Often the underlying cause of a supervisor’s inability to improve productivity can be traced to inadequate knowledge and the minimal amount of time that a supervisor actually spends with welders. The AWS Certified Welding Supervisor program was created to rectify these conditions by offering welding supervisors and their companies the opportunity to put the welding supervisor in a support position for the welders, making them the most productive and best they can be. This innovative program identifies a body of knowledge all welding supervisors should know and understand in order to increase productivity and improve weld quality.

Olympic Steel Tour – Sign Up Today! UPDATE: Tour Cancelled

Come tour Olympic Steel‘s Plate Facility, located at 13100 Fifteenth Avenue North in Plymouth on April 15th at 4:30 PM, and learn how they make their products. The tour will last until 6:30 pm; afterwards we will meet at Axels Bonfire Grill for dinner (dinner is pay as you go.) Contact Pam Lesemann for more information or to sign up!

Update (from Dan Johnson): FYI if you haven’t already RSVP’d please contact Pam ASAP. If there is not enough support (ie people attending) this event will get canceled and rescheduled to fall 2009.

Update: Due to lack of interest, the Olympic Steel Tour has been canceled…for now. The tour will be rescheduled for this fall–check this site for date and time!
